Mundford u15 travelled to Ipswich to take on Stow Falcons in the Final of the Suffolk Open Cup and travelled home with the sought after Cup after a hard working display in blisteringly hot conditions. Stow started the stronger and scored early on and Mundford struggled initially to cope with Stows strong midfield presence. Mundford kept working at their game and with players such as Shaun Massingham, Sam Bond, Nathan Rose and Ollie Fulcher showing the way physically they started to put some of their own pressure on the game. Indeed, it was Sam Bond who deservedly scored a fine headed equaliser after a pinpoint cross from Jamie Thomas. Mundford were now holding their own and it was against the run of play that Stow scored a second goal after they broke with speed and Rose unfortunately turned the ball into his own net despite brilliantly making a challenge before the Stow striker could hit the net. This knocked the stuffing out of Mundford until half time when they re-grouped and took the game by the scruff of the neck into the second half. Mundford showed real character and as Stow started to bake in the heat, Mundford turned up the stove to boiling point with Jack Hamilton and Danny Foster banging on the door of the Stow goal at every opportunity. Indeed it was these two players who helped themselves to two goals each in a four goal blitz on Stows rearguard, the last being a shot of great accuracy from Foster. Stow still tried to come at Mundford but found Mundford in no mood to let them back in the game as tackle after tackle flew in. Mundford had players suffering with cramp and blisters as their work rate took its toll but with their mood raised high and fine back up from Jordan Cooper and Nathan Wright and safe handling when required from Jamie Barlow between the sticks, Mundford crossed the finishing line with a 5-2 win to add the title of Suffolk Open Cup Champions to their Mid Norfolk Champions title. A fine season for players, staff and supporters alike.
