What a game ! Mundford U15 entertained Haverhill & Linton (HLA)Youth in the Suffolk Open Cup Semi and these two teams dished up what was probably the most entertaining game seen at Mundford for many a season. HLA were quickest out of the blocks and had taken the lead within five minutes when their striker pounced on uncertainty to score. This shocked Mundford into life and Sam Bond led the way with tackle and challenge after challenge to motivate his team-mates. Mundford pulled their socks up and Jack Hamilton equalised cooly. With each teams players playing football to relish the game went to half-time 1-1. The second half saw Mundford quickest off the mark and they looked the likeliest to score. It took some time coming but Danny Foster came up with an customary finish to take the lead. HLA then took the game back into their possesion and won a penalty which was finely finished to make it 2-2. With extra time looking on the cards Danny Foster again took a Jamie Thomas ball, twisted the HLA defence around and superbly fired home to look like the winner. But HLA are not a team to lie down and there No9 took the game to 3-3 with a goal to grace any game as it was rifled home from 25 yards - brilliant. To Mundfords credit they again attacked HLA, won a corner and with seconds remaining, Michael Jordan took the chance of attacking the ball, got ahead of his defender and stuck the ball into the HLA Goal. Final score Mundford 4 - HLA 3 and Mundford go on to compete in the final at Ipswich in May. In truth, not one player deserved to go home on a losing team - it was that good.
